Collagen Injection

General Description
Collagen, also known as Zyderm or Zyplast, is an injectable filler used to fill in fine lines around the lips and provide more contour and definition to the lip line. The fillers are injected just beneath the skins surface and provide immediate results. Without continuous treatments, the collagen is just naturally and gradually absorbed by the body with no harmful side effects or long-term problems. Collagen is a great way to reduce fine lines around the lips, but also to provide a much desired and very attractive fullness to the mouth.

Time Required to perform:
Usually about 15-30 minutes, depending on how many areas are being treated

Side Effects:
Any potential side effect would last temporarily. These might include throbbing or burning, slight redness, or swelling.

Duration of Results:
Can last for up to 3-6 months, but this varies by individual.

Recovery:
Most patients are able to resume their normal activities just a few minutes after their treatment.

Insurance:
Due to the cosmetic nature of collagen, insurance usually does not apply.

Discomfort Level:
Virtually none for most people, maybe minor discomfort at injection site.

Anesthesia:
Sometimes a topical cream is applied to the injection site.
